Minnie Hauk from Ireland, with Ryan Moore as the jockey and Aidan O’Brien as the trainer, narrowly beat her stablemate Whirl by a neck in a 1 mile 4 furlongs race at Epsom. The softened ground from rain tested the horses' stamina, but Minnie, a daughter of Frankel, pulled off a superb finish, giving O'Brien his 11th Oaks win.
Lambourn, with Wayne Lordan as the jockey and trained by Aidan O'Brien, took control from the beginning to win the 246th Derby by 3¾ lengths on a track with good-to-soft ground. Lazy Griff, who had odds of 50‑1, came in second, and Tennessee Stud finished third, giving O'Brien his 11th Derby victory.
